A shoplifting suspect allegedly tried to attack a police officer with a three-inch spiked heel after she was arrested at a mall, CBS station KOVR-TV reports.
The 23-year-old woman tried to use a fraudulent check at a JC Penny at the mall, according to the Sacramento Police Department, but an alert sales person noticed and called authorities. A police officer detained her in the parking lot and placed her in the back of his vehicle.
"She feigned illness, she said she was nauseous," said Konrad von Schoech of the Sacramento Police Department. "The officer went back there to see if he could help her out in some way."
When the officer opened the door, police said, the suspect kicked him in the thigh with her three-inch stiletto heel and started running across the parking lot. She fell onto a curb and injured herself, allowing police to catch up and arrest her.
Investigators found fake checks and drug paraphernalia in the back of her truck, according to police.
The suspect was taken to the hospital after her fall. The officer who was attack was not seriously injured.
Mall security says that during the holidays, similar incidents happen more frequently. Veteran's Day is often the day stores begin seeing an increase in crime.
